A PATIENT IS A LIVING TEXT BOOK - 1

A PATIENT IS A LIVING TEXT BOOK ! - 1

DR A.V. BAVDEKAR

Serving the sick has been my mission and passion. "Service to sick is service to God” is my life's conviction. I am aware of my limitations as a doctor and as a surgeon. I know I cannot cure all. My attempt is to lessen human suffering and misery, to improve morale and to give cou to my patients to face and bear pain and to be close to them in the bereavement.

I love all my patients irrespective of who they are and what their problem is. I try not to play 'God'. I am fully convinced that 'I dress. He heals'. I get involved with my patients yet I try not to allow my feelings to affect my rational thinking while deciding on the treatment.

The mind of a patient plays a major role in both causing his physical illness as well as in its healing. I have always tried in my practice to understand this mind-body interaction and to enable the mind influence the body favorably. I can't say that I have always been successful.

In my work I have experienced success, failure and complications. I am naturally happy when my work is attended with success. But failures and complications do not unnerve me. They only make me more aware and introspective. A meaningful doctor-patient relationship is important to help patients tide over their trauma and tribulations.
